I wish I was in Automotive Advertising all the way back in the 60's so I could have worked on some of these. Thankfully I was able to actually work on Advertising for Mercury before the brand was shut down, I tragically even worked on some of their "fade out" projects, aka Mercury Sunset. I like to think of myself as not only the Resident "Muscle Mercury" guy, but also the Resident Automotive Ad guy on OPPO.

I've worked on Chevy, Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Audi, and Subaru. Ford, Lincoln, Mercury has been both international and US.

Here's a taste of my Montego from when it was launched (1968 was the first year!). Note, they even have it in my color scheme, and configuration! 2 Door Hard Top, MX trim, in Cardinal Red with Black Vinyl Top!

Technically the red one up front (looks just like mine in real life) could be a Cyclone too!

Mine is a Cyclone, a Cyclone Package car, haha. It was a performance handling upgrade that included....power steering and a sway bar...would power brakes have killed them to include?

ooh yes I am quite fond of those and my fav. Fairlane 500. Good times but at the same time, the worst automotive sin I've ever committed.

basically the looong story ends up with my friend and I getting drunk and taking some Sawzalls and a couple boxed of blades, chopping his 69 Fairlane fastback (which we put hooouuurs into) into little pieces. Enough pieces to put on the bed of his F-250 and scrapping it the next morning

I almost went back and said, hey I posted a bunch! but you're here so saved me the effort lol.

The traffic signs one is hilarious. All I can imagine is someone having a meeting saying this:

Ad guy 1: Hey we need a background for the Montego shoot today

Ad guy 2: We don't have anything planned?

AG1: Nope, nothing. Got any ideas?

AG2: how about a bunch of giant traffic signs?

AG1: THAT'S FUCKING GENIUS LET'S DO IT

AG2: I was kind of kidding...

And I certainly love old ads. I have a great old 68 Corvette/Camaro ad framed at home, I used to have it up at my desk at Chevy, it's so clean people thought I took it from the archives!

I really shouldn't complain, it handles surprisingly well and the brakes are really good, especially for being 46 year old drum brakes that aren't even powered.
